While you can wear any clothing in Arizona, it is best to err on the side of light clothing and bring clothes for layering.
Stick to light tops, such as tank tops or short-sleeved shirts. In some cases, you may find a light button-down to be a good choice.
Shorts and light skirts are the go-to bottoms in Arizona. You can wear long pants or skirts, but usually only in the colder months.
Light dresses are a great choice for warm weather. In the winter, you can add tights to stay extra warm. Rompers and jumpsuits can also work well in Arizona as long as they are not too tight.
You will likely not need a giant parka in the winter. However, it is a good idea to have some form of outerwear with you in Arizona. Often, a light jacket will be enough at night, and you will likely only need outerwear during the day in the cold months
The types of shoes you need in Arizona will depend on the season and your planned activities. Since hiking is a popular activity in this state, bringing hiking boots is a good idea; just ensure your boots can handle rugged terrain.
Some good walking shoes are a good idea if you are wandering around a city or doing other related activities. Sneakers or similar shoes will serve versatile purposes. Bring along dressy shoes if you plan on going somewhere fancy.
Sandals are key if you plan on swimming. However, avoid wearing them if you plan on hiking or participating in similar activities.
Hats are essential in Arizona in all seasons. They provide valuable protection from the sun and protect you from the cold in the winter. With a wide-brimmed hat, you will fit right in during the summer. A hat, such as a beanie, would also pair well with an outfit in Arizona.
While many people think of Arizona as an arid desert all year round, the state has four distinct seasons. For optimum comfort, it is essential to know what to wear for the weather.
The whole state of Arizona also does not have the same climate. It contains many different microenvironments, including high-altitude deserts, cool plateau highlands, mid-altitude deserts, and low-altitude deserts.
Higher altitude areas can often have colder temperatures than lower areas. The most humid part of Arizona is the southern part of the Colorado Plateau.
Spring and Summer
Arizona temps can range between 45 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit in spring and summer. As a result, you should have a variety of clothing that will keep you warm or cool, depending on the weather.
The summer day can get extremely hot. So, it is essential to dress as lightly as possible and carry a light jacket for cold nights. Tee shirts and tank tops will usually do the trick in terms of tops, and shorts or a light dress work well. In general, avoid tight clothing.
Fall
Arizona usually has temperatures between 50 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit in the fall. So, it is a good idea to dress flexibly. Try to choose clothing that works well for warmer temperatures. You can always pair your outfit with a light jacket. The fall is also a central time for Arizona football. So, it is the perfect time to dress head to toe in clothing that represents your favorite teams.
Winter
Temperatures usually range between 35 and 71 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. An Arizona winter is warm in the persistent sun and cold in the shade and at night. So, it is a good idea to dress in layers. For optimum coziness, many people favor hoodies and sweats in the winter.
While you can wear short-sleeved shirts in the winter, it is a good idea to wear long pants. Shorts are often not warm enough for the coldest days in Arizona. Plus, long pants will protect against the plethora of cacti you will find in the state.
What should you not wear in the desert?
Since a desert has specific conditions, it is vital to dress appropriately. Failing to do so can be uncomfortable and dangerous. While you should wear loose-fitting clothing in the desert, avoiding dresses or overly flowy skirts is best since they can be impractical. Tight clothing can make you excessively hot.
How can I protect my skin in Arizona?
The air in Arizona can be quite dry, and that quality, combined with the relentless sun, means your skin can be prone to issues, including dryness and skin cancer. Wear sunscreen, sun hats, and other protective clothing to protect your skin in Arizona. It is also essential to moisturize your skin regularly and avoid exposing skin to excess heat.
What fashion is popular in Arizona?
Since so much of the clothing in Arizona is dictated by comfort and staying safe in the climate, much of the popular fashion in Arizona is resort-inspired. Accessories in this state often find inspiration in the traditions of natives from the area. Many Arizona citizens proudly display clothing related to their favorite local sports team.
Final thoughts
Getting the full Arizona experience includes finding clothing that works well for the Arizona climate. While comfort is essential, using your clothing to honor Arizona culture and activities is also fun. With these essentials for an Arizona clothing wardrobe, you can have a blast in the Grand Canyon State.

As a small business, we’re counting our blessing daily; for every day we’re able to safely keep our headquarters open, for the ability to keep our online store running, and above all, for our supporters who are keeping us in business through these challenging times.
While the COVID-19 epidemic is spreading and changing by the hour – we’ve already seen some of its impact. In just a few weeks, some of the most affected sectors have been small businesses, as they temporarily shut their doors, and non-profits, whose funds and resources and are being depleted.
As a community-focused brand, we’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many local organizations that are doing their part to step up for Arizona. We figured now more than ever; this was worthy to highlight. Below are just some of the collaborations we currently have on our website, and a portion of proceeds from each of these shirts will benefit a different cause in the community.
We know that purchasing clothes may not be everyone's top priority right now, and we completely understand. But if you do have the means to help, we’d really appreciate it and our partners will too.

While this experience is not an easy one, we want to encourage you to stay positive and lift each other up! With this in mind, we were inspired to bring you something new.
To promote "togetherness" and positivity, our team has designed a new unisex T-shirt to support the community during COVID-19. The T-shirt, a comfortable black crew neck, comes with the pocket-size State Forty Eight logo in the front and the statement "Distant Yet Together" displayed on the back across a globe.
Not only does this serve as a symbol of unity during a time of social-distancing, but 50% of proceeds from each shirt will benefit the Local First Arizona Foundation and Matthews Crossing Food Bank -- two organizations that benefit the sectors being deeply impacted right now, and whose work is supporting local businesses and our neighbors-in-need across the city.
We understand that buying a new T-shirt may not be your priority right now, but if you are able to offer support, this is a great way to contribute to a local business and two very impactful causes.

State Forty Eight is proud to announce that we are an official licensee for Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. And while we’re not the first local company to get licensee approval, we are the first to create co-branded apparel with both universities.
Achieving licensee status with ASU and UArizona is a tremendous accomplishment for us. The demand for Arizona collegiate designs has been high for many years so we're excited to finally be able to launch it. With this partnership we can now provide students, fans, and alumni a way to properly support their school and the state of Arizona, all at once!
That is why we are excited to present to you the “Unity” T-shirt. In collaboration with the locally based and Black-owned BlackLustre, $10 of every T-shirt sold will benefit ICAN.
ICAN is a free, family-centered youth service in the East Valley that provides a full complement of programs proven effective in equipping youth to achieve personal and academic success by tackling substance abuse, gang involvement and juvenile delinquency.
It is part of BlackLustre’s vision to make positive clothing for the disadvantaged and the under-represented as well as give back to their communities. That is why when the owner, Steven, brought us the idea of a collaboration – it was a no-brainer.
The only stipulation we had was this: State Forty Eight wasn’t going to make a profit from the sales of the T-shirt, we simply want to be a vehicle to spread a message and give those profits back to the community.
Last week we hosted a roundtable discussion between Blacklustre Co. and SFE to talk about how this partnership formed and some of the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Check the video here for more on the collaboration and follow the links below to purchase a “Unity” T-shirt.
We couldn’t be more excited to launch this design and to put our money to work in support of the local Black community.
]]>Like most baseball fans, we were disappointed that the MLB 2020 season has been postponed. Understandably so, but spring just isn’t the same without a ball game, right?
Well, you don’t need to wait for the season to start to support the home team! As we wait for news on what will become of MLB this year, we are thrilled to share that we have three NEW designs in partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
For the past few seasons, we’ve been working with the team to roll out limited-edition shirts for the Rally-backs—the Dback’s in-game entertainment crew—and the fans. This year we’ve rolled out two black crew neck T-shirts and one black and red baseball tee. All three designs are unique, but all feature the iconic black, red, and teal colors. You can now snag the new collection on the SFE website!
Which one will you go for?
